What are the strong magnet and weak magnet? What is their difference?

Published:2022/02/17

Whether the magnet is strong or weak depends on the material of the magnet

Different people have different ideas about strong magnetism. Some people even connect strong magnet with ferrite magnet, which is actually wrong. Generally speaking, strong magnet refers to neodymium iron boron magnet (a rare earth magnet) by default, while ferrite magnet is called general magnet.

Is it feasible to measure the Gauss of a magnet with a Gauss meter to judge whether the magnet is strong or weak?

Basically feasible. Why basic? This is mainly because there is a knowledge that many people don't know, that is, the Gaussian value of magnet is inversely proportional to the size of magnet. The Gaussian value measured by large NdFeB magnet will not be greater. For example, there are seven hundred or eight hundred or mare than 1 thousand guass value,  and ferrite magnet can also reach this value. Generally, the surface magnetic field intensity of NdFeB will be higher than 2000 Gauss, The ferrite magnet general magnetism will be lower than this value.

Some people still don't understand. Let's see the difference between them.

First of all, we first distinguish the primary color of NdFeB from gray in color. After processing the finished products, the surface should be plated with anti-oxidation treatment, galvanized or nickel plated. After electroplating, the surface becomes silver white, and the broken section is gray white.

The surface of ferrite magnet is dark black. Generally, products do not need electroplating treatment (strong anti-corrosion and anti rust ability), so the outer layer is still dark black, and the inside is also dark black.

In terms of weight, whether it is strong or weak magnet can be distinguished. NdFeB magnet is a magnetic material product made by refining the components in rare earth and sintering. The density of NdFeB is generally 7.5, and the component is relatively heavy. The density of ferrite magnet is generally 4.8, which is lighter than NdFeB.

The above is what collect by Zhaobao magnet, a powerful magnet processing factory, introduced to you about whether the magnet belongs to strong or weak magnetism. Our company produces and sells all kinds of permanent magnets. If you need a quotation, please contact us for samples.
