What role does dysprosium ferroalloy play in the composition of Nd-Fe-B? What effect will it have if dysprosium is less or replaced by other materials?

Published:2022/05/26

The temperature resistance of NdFeB material itself is relatively poor, but in order to make NdFeB work in high temperature environment, magnet manufacturers think of adding dysprosium iron to improve the temperature resistance of NdFeB.

If Nd-Fe-B lacks dysprosium iron, what effect will it have?

In short, if a strong magnet has less neodymium, its performance will be reduced, that is, its magnetism will be weakened; If dysprosium is less, the temperature resistance will become weak. Now there is a new process on the market, which can add dysprosium on the surface, but the actual internal dysprosium iron is seriously insufficient. When the requirements are not high, the temperature resistance can barely pass. However, in the environment with long-term use or high requirements, the lack of dysprosium iron will have a serious impact on the magnet.

Can we use other materials instead?

Many small manufacturers usually use holmium iron instead of dysprosium iron. This material is very cheap and can improve the temperature resistance of magnets to a certain extent. However, it is far from dysprosium iron. Purchasers with certain requirements must choose large brand magnet factories, such as Zhaobao Magnet, to avoid serious damage to equipment or products due to inferior magnets.

Finally, share the dysprosium iron content in different brands of NdFeB:

M Series: 0-1%

H Series: 0-2%

SH series: 1-4.5%

Uh series: 3-6%

EH series: 4-10%
